In Italy, wine growing landscapes are crucial and in some cases as for example the area of Prosecco in Treviso, Collio and Colli Orientali in Friuli, wine growing landscapes are already protected, while Le Langhe, Roero e Monferrato are even recognized as world heritage sites.

This indicator has been created to evaluate, in the sustainability assessment, also important aspects such as landscape and the economic and social impact of wine production on the territory. Therefore, in order to integrate them in the assessment of sustainability, a kit of qualitative and quantitative indicators has been built, in order to evaluate the actions undertaken by the companies and their impact on the territory. The subjects of evaluation are: biodiversity, landscape, local communities, and the economic impact on the territory and on the local communities.
